Benefits

Currently we are providing eye and tissue donation services to a total of 97 hospitals in South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Nebraska. Our headquarters are located in Sioux Falls, SD with satellite offices in Aberdeen, SD and Rapid City, SD. These satellite locations allow us to provide quicker response times (typically under 8 hours) to a very broad service area.

Services we provide for contracted hospitals:

  • Professional, efficient and timely completion of donation procedures.
  • A bereavement program for donor families.
  • Annual on-site educational in-services.
  • Annual on-site chart reviews to help maintain compliance with CMS and JCAHO.
  • Friendly, professional and knowledgeable Donor Coordinators.
  • Community education and donor recognition programs.
  • Spirit of the North does not mandate the use of an operating room for our tissue donation procedures.
  • Spirit of the North establishes working relationships with funeral homes in the region so that we may utilize their facilities for donation procedures when necessary.

We realize that a hospital's time, space, and resources are at a premium. It is our goal to make the tissue donation process as streamlined and transparent as possible for the hospital. One of our founding principles is to take the donation-associated workload off of the hospitals and onto Spirit of the North.

Last but not least, Spirit of the North believes that tissue donated in the Midwest should be returned to the Midwest for transplant whenever possible. The tissue processing agencies Spirit of the North contracts with guarentee that tissue donated within the region is returned to the surgeons of the region for transplant whenever possible and is tracked accordingly.
